Painters and decorators are one of the few traders who are benefiting from the recession. With the slow down in home buying and the drop in house prices many can't afford to move home. Rather than riding things out it seems people are opting to make home improvements, from general painting and decorating or a home extension, professional decorators are thriving from the extra demand.
When weighing up the costs of moving against staying put and making some home improvements, there's an easy winner. The cost of having your whole house re decorated sometimes wouldn't even come close to the expense involved in moving, especially during today's climate where many home owners remain in negative equity.
Hiring a professional painter and decorator is a preferred option for many home owners who wouldn't normally have the time to do the work themselves. It means you can make the changes you want, easily and at an affordable price. And the decorators themselves are thriving with the additional demand, with some even having to turn down work. This really can't be said for many trades who continue to suffer from the slow climate upturn, but it's refreshing to know that not everyone is feeling the pinch.
Decorating your home really can transform it, whether your just adding some colour to a room or having a complete home re vamp it can make staying put far more desirable. Painting and decorating the nursery room can naturally make you suddenly feel creative and adventurous. Although there are simple ways to decorate your baby's room, you might want to deviate from the usual shades of pink and blue, and try out other colours or themes. You might even want to create your own designs and make your own stencils. Here are ways to make decorating your baby's haven as simple as can be.
Plan and prepare
Before anything else, plan and prepare for the painting job. Planning and preparation makes things a lot easier and more organised; it prevents costly mistakes too. Decide on the design and colour you want for the baby room. Determine if you want to do the painting job on your own or let painting contractors do it. If you don't have the skills and materials necessary for the decorating job, better hire someone to do it; it's less hassle. If you go for DIY decorating, make sure you have all the necessary tools and supplies, plus some handy tips.
Make it simple
If you're keen about experimenting but don't really have much painting and decorating experience, you can try out simpler decorating ideas. Pick out a solid colour and paint various shapes and patterns on top, or hang paintings and decors on the walls. You can also go for stripes, dots and checkers. For a neat two-tone wall, simply divide the surface into two parts, and paint two different colours say light blue on top for sky and light green below for meadow. The border doesn't have to be a straight horizontal line; you can make it wavy or zigzag.
Go for stencils
Murals can be simple or complex, depending on the theme you choose. The sure-fire way of painting designs in the baby room is by using stencils. There is an abundance of stencil designs that you can buy from interior design suppliers and decorators. When you buy stencils, choose those ideal for stencilling a wide range of surfaces, and buy stencils designed for repetitive use and easy cleaning.
Decorating the baby room isn't really as simple as slapping a coat of paint onto the walls. You do want the room to look as nice, safe and comfy as possible, especially since this is where your little bundle spends most of her time and you as you babysit her. So if you're short of skills, materials and tools for the job, don't hesitate to call painters contractors. The range of choice available today for the DIY painter decorator has grown massively - almost all painting hardware stores now stock shelf after shelf of paint brushes by various manufacturers, and of varied quality. The mistake most DIY enthusiasts make when choosing their brushes is the make their decision based on brand or price, with a little knowledge you can guarantee improved results. We are often required to repaint over poor handiwork, one of the most common problems we find is wayward bristles stuck in the paintwork - this is the mark of low quality brushes and can be easily avoided by adhering to the following tips;
1. Which bristles are best?
When confronted with the choice of brushes the first thing to check for is the type of fibre used for the bristles. The 3 most popular options are natural fibre, synthetic nylon blends and polyester filament. Each type of fibre is well suited to a specific painting job.
Natural fibres work well with virtually all types of oil based paints, varnishes and stains. However they should be avoided when working with latex based paints and coats.
Synthetic fibres are fantastic for all types of painting and decorating work due to the high stiffness of the bristles, and the fact that they tend to shed bristles far less often. Synthetic bristles are ideally suited for all paints including oil based, latex based, water based, varnishes, wood stains and other types of coating.
2. What is the best material for the brush handle?
We always recommend choosing a wooden handled paint brush for the optimum balance between strength and weight. Wood is durable enough to withstand the constant day to day demands placed by a decorator in London, it is also light enough to prevent the dreaded hand cramps.
3. Be sure to check your ferrule!
The ferrule is the metal fitting that connects your bristles to the paint brush. Whenever possible it is best to go for a stainless steel option. This will ensure that if cared for properly your brushes will last you years.
You may not have known that selecting a paint brush gave you so many options. It is best to invest in a quality set of paint brushes that cost a bit more. Then, take care of them and keep them around for your next job. When you invest in quality, you can count on using those brushes to help you to complete more jobs over the years, quickly and efficiently.
